About Emily

emilybaby

Several decades ago, in a move He probably regrets to this day, God decided to create a being that was equal parts bookworm, know-it-all, health nut, sports fan, and Disney freak. While this being would inevitably mean well, it would annoy so, so many with loud singing in public, lectures about the dangers of soda, and gasps and squeaks whenever face-to-face with Wonder Woman merchandise. And don’t even get that weirdo started on Harry Potter, Frozen, or Sherlock.

All right, fine, I admit it. I’m that weirdo. I plead guilty to all of the above charges. But you know what? Normal is boring, and people that are different have the best stories.

If you’ve made it through the above paragraphs and still want to know more about me, I think you’ll fit in here just fine. I’m a writer, with a novel forthcoming. I won’t say aspiring writer, because I DO write. Do I have a book contract or a column in a magazine? Nope. But guess what? You can write without those things. You can scribble down song lyrics in a parking lot, jot down poetry between cups of coffee, and work on a manuscript before heading off to your out-of-the-house job. And I’ve done all of those things, in addition to blogging and getting pretty random on social media. (“What? Only one retweet? That crap was brilliant, people, come on!”)

I participated in NaNoWriMo for the first time in November of 2014, and it completely changed how I write. I NEVER would have guessed that I could turn out 3,500 words a day until I tried it, so I’ll always thank NaNo for that. And if you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, look into it. It was one of the most productive and fun things I’ve ever done. Anyway, I ended up with over 50,000 words of a novel by December 1st, and I finished that manuscript earlier this year. I just put it out on submission and began querying a few months ago, and I’ll keep you posted on the progress of the “little NaNo book that could”. During the process, I’ll continue to share some of my poetry and flash fiction, and I’ll let you know where to find me – or my writing – in the real world.

I’m ecstatic that you’ve found my page and even happier that you’re still reading. Please find me on social media – the cute little square buttons to the right – or feel free to comment or e-mail me. Let me know what sort of things you’d like to see more of on here, or just shoot the breeze with me. I’m down either way. 🙂
